ΓΙΑ ΠΡΩΤΗ ΦΟΡΑ ΚΟΝΤΑ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΚΛΟΓΗ ΒΟΥΛΕΥΤΗ, ΟΙ ΒΡΕΤΑΝΟΙ ΠΡΑΣΙΝΟΙ - Ανοικτή πρόσκληση για Πράσινους εθελοντές από όλη την Ευρώπη στην προεκλογική εκστρατεία στο Μπράιτον

Οι βρετανικές εκλογές της 6ης Μαϊου έχουν κάτι το ξεχωριστό για το πράσινο κίνημα: Σε ένα πλειοψηφικό εκλογικό σύστημα όπου εκλέγεται μόνο ο πρώτος σε ψήφους κάθε μονοεδρικής περιφέρειας, το βρετανικό Πράσινο Κόμμα διεκδικεί για πρώτη φορά με αξιώσεις την είσοδό του στη Βουλή των Κοινοτήτων.  Κρισιμη περιφέρεια είναι η παραλιακή πόλη του Μπράιτον, στις ακτές της Μάγχης, όπου η Καρολάιν Λούκας, ευρωβουλευτής και πρόσφατα εκλεγμένη πρόεδρος των Πράσινων, φαίνεται ότι προηγείται απέναντι στους υποψηφίους όλων των άλλων κομμάτων. Αν τελικά κερδίσει και εκλεγεί, θα είναι ιστορική στιγμή για το βρετανικό πράσινο κίνημα, που συγκεντρώνει παραδοσιακά υψηλά ποσοστά στις  δημοτικές εκλογές και τις ευρωεκλογές (8,6% τον περασμένο Ιούνιο), αποκλείεται όμως μέχρι τώρα από την κοινοβουλευτική εκπροσώπηση λόγω του πλειοψηφικού εκλογικού συστήματος. 

Καθώς απομένουν λιγότερο από 4 εβδομάδες μέχρι τις κάλπες της 6ης Μαϊου και κάθε μικρή ή μεγάλη βοήθεια "μετράει" πολλαπλά, οι Βρετανοί Πράσινοι αποφάσισαν να κάνουν την εκστρατεία στο Μπράιτον υπόθεση όλου του διεθνούς πράσινου κινήματος. Αν λοιπόν τα αγγλικά σας είναι σε ανεκτό επίπεδο και μπορείτε να βρεθείτε για 1-3 μέρες στο Μπράιτον με δικά σας έξοδα, έχετε την ευκαιρία να προσφέρετε πολύτιμη πρακτική βοήθεια και να ζήσετε από πρώτο χέρι μια καμπάνια που ελπίζουμε ότι θα γράψει ιστορία. A chance to visit the town of Brighton and help Caroline Lucas become the first Green MP at Westminster

The UK national elections have just been announced for Thursday 6^th May. Caroline Lucas, the leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, is the leading candidate for a seat in Brighton, Sussex, on the South Coast of England. Under Britain's notoriously unfair first-past-the-post voting system, the person who gets the most votes takes the seat. Up until now the Greens have not been able to break through this barrier but in Brighton, Caroline has been campaigning hard and is now the front-runner. She stands a wonderful chance of becoming the first UK Green MP to be elected to the Westminster Parliament and demonstrating that the Greens can win at every level.

The other parties are fighting hard to stop this, of course, and that is where we need your help. Between now and election day on 6^th May  a team of volunteers will be on the streets of Brighton, delivering campaign leaflets, knocking on doors asking for support, running stalls in the market with Green literature and all sorts of other activities.

If you can get to Brighton and have a day or two to spare, we would love to have your help. The more people we have, the higher our visibility and the greater our chance of making history.

We can't pay you or provide accommodation but we can help you find cheap rooms in bed-and-breakfasts or guest houses. Brighton is a great place to be, with its alternative lifestyle and seaside attractions and you could combine some valuable political work with a great deal of fun.
